Life is Better with a Dog
From the moment I got my puppy, my life became instantly richer... and more complicated. My first excursion with her was on a trip to Homer, Alaska. My husband and I wanted to go fishing for halibut. I called the Homer Bed and Breakfast Association to find a B&B that would take pets. I booked a room with the Best Western Bidarka Inn in Homer, AK.
When I mentioned that we were looking for a fishing charter as well, she told me that her husband ran a charter boat and that her daughter could watch our puppy for the day for $5.00 while we went out fishing. WOW! What a deal! My one concern was that they had a pet duck... and I had a bird dog. I left specific instructions to the young girl to keep my puppy on the leash to avoid any avian tragedies. We had a great weekend, my puppy got some extra love (and no duck). We went home with about 100 pounds of halibut.
I have since learned to appreciate our pet friendly state up here. Almost every time I've asked, I have found that for an extra $10 or so, my dear girl is welcome to come along for the ride.
